Washington—Senator Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.) today released the following statement after the Senate passed a resolution in support of Israel:
“My support for Israel’s right to defend itself is unwavering.
“Unfortunately, I was unable to vote for the resolution because I’m still working from home while I recover from COVID-19. However, I was proud to cosponsor the resolution and would have voted for it today.
“The United States is Israel’s strongest and closest ally. We must continue to support efforts to safeguard it from future terrorist attacks and sanction those nations that support terror.
“And, we must also do all we can to provide humanitarian relief to the Palestinian civilians in Gaza. As President Biden stated during his trip to Israel, our enemy is Hamas, not the Palestinian people.”
